First I want to say I really like Cafe Athens. I would say this is the best greek food in the area. Their food is really consistent and you can expect to be served fast. The platter entree portions are really large. The only BAD: I have encountered one server who was extremely argumentative when he got my order wrong, accusing me of ordering something completely different (something I had never even heard of). It made me really angry that I had to defend myself and argue with this kid who clearly wasn't paying attention when I ordered. I get it - mistakes happen, I wasn't upset about that. I was upset when he started accusing me of ordering something completely different and i was forced to argue back. Not my idea of a relaxing dinner...but the food was still great! I'll just steer clear of that guy.

This seems to be a division of Renzio's, which has a few locations in the Denver area. Their gyros are huge! Filled with lots of tender chicken, tzatiki sauce, fresh lettuce, onion and tomato (he said the lamb was really good too). Our one year old nearly devoured an entire kids meal.

Best Greek food in town, so far. The gyros are fantastic and the workers are very helpful and friendly. Not too expensive and usually only takes about 30 minutes from when you order to when you finish!

Chicken gyro was really good. Warm bread, tender chicken, classic sauce. Fries might be twice cooked. Whatever the trick was, the fries were awesome!

How this place can get anything less than 5 stars is beyond me! I'd give it 10 stars if I could. This is hands-down the best Greek food in town (or in the entire state, for that matter). The service is fabulous, very friendly people, food comes out quickly, and they have the best gyros I've ever tasted! Everything on the menu is exceptional, and very reasonably priced (especially if you use their ValPak coupon deal). 100 stars from this reviewer!

This place has some really good food. Large portions at great prices. Never had a bad meal here.

Very nice environment. All the people where really friendly, and they gave us a free meal because it was my birthday. And the food was amazing!

The food has Great flavor, came out of the kitchen hot and the service was very good. This is the way a restaurant is supposed to be run. GOOD JOB!!! Wayne Mc

This is a great spot for lunch - my husband and I were in and out in around 40 minutes. The service was really promt and friendly as well. Even though I don't usually like sugar in my coffee, I really enjoyed the Greek coffee. The avgolemono soup was a little 'meh' to me. It was more like extra lemony chicken soup, and also had short grain rice instead of orzo. The gyros were pretty solid though. I don't really think I would come here for dinner, but I will definitely be coming back for lunch! It may not be the best Greek food ever, but it's worlds away from something like Daphne's.

I hesitate giving a review a little because I've only ordered a handful of items off the menu, and really always get the same thing. But it's really good! I order the Souvlaki Kabob Platter with lamb every time. The other items on the menu look great, but I always end up with the lamb. The plate also comes with some gyros meat, so I can say that is excellent also.

I love this place! I usually get carry-out though. I have eaten in once or twice and I have nothing to complain about.

Oh so wonderful!! The service is always wonderful and the food is always consistent! I love the feisty feta appetizer! Falafels are great. They have a vegetarian gyro which is lovely. You can't beat the gyro value meal: a gyro, side and a drink for $9!!!! Love love love this place.

  • Lindsey B.

I love Cafe Athens. It's definitely boasts the best gyros in town. I love the feta, it has a strong and creamy texture that is hard to find with domestic cheese. Our waiter was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. He also made a brilliant suggestion: the glao pie swirl or Bougatsa. This is a flakey pastry filled with delicious custard. So rich and so original. Get the gyro or chicken gyro with feta and tzatiki, and get a side of falafel! So bomb.

When I go to a Greek restaurant, I am not going for a gyro. I can get that at the cart on College when I am drunk. I go for actual Greek meals. We had the Combo platter (gyro and chicken), the Mousaka platter, and a appetizer sampler. There were 2 of us and a toddler, and we ended up taking home about half of the food, because there was so much. The appetizer sampler is enough for a meal for two people. And it is only $10. I can barely get enough hot wings for one person for that price! It really is a good deal and everything was good, the pita was soft and fresh, it really tasted great. The dolmathes filling was a little bland. The platters were the same story, ton of food, nice salad with tomato, onion, feta, olives. We tried the spinach rice and the orzo. The orzo was a little bleh, kind of overcooked I think, but the rice was wonderful with the right lemon flavor. The chicken on the combo platter was pretty dry, but the mousaka! This is like lasagna with eggplant instead of noodles and this awesome crazy layer of egg (quiche-like) on top. Top with a marinara sauce. Yum. Really shows the cultural exchange between the Mediterranean countries even in the last two centuries. Alas, I wax poetic for that dish... Service was great, fresh glasses of iced tea appearing when I didn't even notice the server taking away my empty glass, everything was fast, and the price was right. I live in Old Town but this is worth traveling South.

I love this place, the food is consistently good & well-priced, the restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly! It probably helps that I live 5 minutes away but I eat here at least once a week.

LOVE Cafe Athens! Have visited here multiple times and although everything coming out of the kitchen looks good, I can never stop from ordering the classic gyro with tzatziki sauce and feta...yummm! Great lively atmosphere, bright, good service and the fries - oh the fries are wonderful! For a table of two you could easily each order a gyro and then split a side of fries because the portions are quite generous. Having been here as well as Taverna I'll take Cafe Athens any day, hands down. Definitely better prices and maybe a better value... Could easily do a casual business lunch here or a date night dinner. Not the most upscale place but man their food is good! Enjoyable experience all-around, every time I come here.

This was my first visit to this eatery specializing in Greek food. It certainly won't be my last! My girlfriend and I were looking for a quick bite to eat while we were out shopping. She had spent time abroad and was craving some of the local Greek food she had sampled. We split a classic lamb gyro. The meat was delicious, the tzaziki (I was never very good at spelling foreign things...) sauce was perfect and the veggies and pita were fresh. I could eat 4 million of these things and still be hungry for more We also tried the baklava. It was a little stale tasting and almost TOO sweet for my taste. I saw some amazing menu options Id like to go back and try - spanikopita, saganake, and tiropita all made my eyes wide with anticipation. The service was also stellar.

We love Cafe Athens! We've been there three times now and each time we have had: 1. Extremely Friendly Service 2. Delicious Food 3. Very speedy cook times on our food. As someone who enjoyed eating Gyros in the city of Athens when I visited a few years ago, I am always searching for a place that can compare to those delicious pita "sandwiches" that I long for. Cafe Athens comes very close. Their gyro with tsatziki, feta, and "hot and spicy" (jalapenos) is wonderful: flavorful and HUGE. Last time we were there, the cook also sent us out a free plate of piping hot fries, seasoned with delicious Greek seasoning. He came out to check on our meal and make sure everything was great. We love going there and will keep going for delicious Gyros!

It's been there a couple years, but I only tried it recently. Staff was friendly and courteous. I ordered the Greek sausage gyro with veggie medley. Pretty tasty, but was greasier than I expected. It's basically Greek fast food and priced right. I'll go back for more.

This is one of our favorite lunch spots on Harmony. Really good food. Others at our table had the souvlaki pizza, which I expected to be greasy. It was not and he loved it. I had the souvlaki pita, which was very tasty with local craft beer on tap.

I remember the summer sun shining brightly, causing the freckles across my nose to darken. I remember the green leaves on the trees dancing in the breeze and the sound of us laughing about the super heroes we created, like Water Woman and Leaf Lady. I remember the smell of Greek food traveling throughout my neighborhood as a kid, taunting us like the elementary school boys on the playground. That smell often caused me to save my allowance money and walk to the hole-in-the-wall Greek restaurant for gyros and fries with one of my childhood best friends. Whenever I eat gyros (or Greek cuisine for that matter), I will always think back to those days when buying our own savory edibles made us feel so grown up. Sadly, there isn't much in the way of Greek cuisine in Fort Collins, but the opening of Cafe Athens helped increase our options. Our dinner there was great and after I realized that they do take-out, I was thrilled because now I have a great option when my husband wants to pick up Five Guys (I'm bored with them right now). Our service was fast and friendly, our food was fresh and fantastic. We also had fun watching the guys from the kitchen bring out a birthday treat for another table and with a large burst of flame, they all exclaimed "OPA!" Cafe Athens is a very casual place that goes beyond the Greek cuisine Fort Collins has been used to. With them being so close to our home, it's reminiscent of those summer days in elementary school, my pockets filled with allowance money grabbing a gyro with Leaf Lady.

Everything seems to be priced a dollar more that it should be. It is on par with something you would get in a food court. A decent place for lunch. The falafel is good and the french fries are great.

Came here for lunch today with wife and 2 1/2 year old son. The menu was extensive and the food was delicious. I ordered the hot and spicy gyro plus the hummus trio for an appetizer. I verified that the tzaziki sauce was made with a yogurt base versus sour cream or mayo which was a good sign! I've been to plenty places that call themselves Greek, but make the tzaziki sauce all wrong, this place passed the test. The pita bread was soft and warm, the lamb pieces were thick, and the gyro got its' spicy kick from jalapeno slices and hot sauce; it was amazing. I agree with one of the other reviews that the kids options were limited, however our son simply ate the pita/hummus and had bites from our gyros. I highly recommend this place if you are craving Greek.

I've been to Cafe Athens several times since the restaurant opened. I love the Greek food that the restaurant offers. Cafe Athens offers a great option for Greek food that is missing in Fort Collins (unless you want to visit the Gyro guy at 2am in Old Town, or the place in the Mall). The service at the restaurant has always been consistently good. Its worth a stop if you are jonesing for some Greek food.

At first when I read a review on Cafe Athens I was more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The woman that wrote into the newspaper accused Athens for not having white table cloths and was hung up on other minor details that gave her a bad rating for the restaurant. I attributed this to snobbishness and elitist attitude that south Fort Collins seems to have and I still have that opinion of that woman's review of this place. When I went to Cafe Athens and left too I too had presentation issues that came about but more in a safety kind a way than decor. During the meal I ate my salad and cracked my tooth on a olive that still had a pit inside of it . Usually at these places they put these kinds of olives on the side and don't hide them in your salad. A minor detail aside from this is that I did not think my gyro was as spicy as other Greek restaurants that I have been to. If you really want good Greek food go to Denver and eat at Pete's Greektown Cafe or Chef Zorbas. Pete also has lots of other Greek restaurants around Denver which are awesome but god forbid some of these places are NOT places that have white table cloths on their tables! (GASP!!!) You were warned.

Cafe Athens is one of our families favorites. The food is good, priced right, the service is quick and the staff is VERY friendly. We eat here most Saturday nights after church. Really love this place.

I think this is the best Greek food in northern Colorado. Although I haven't tried a lot of places, they seem to be few and far between. I had the gryo here and really enjoyed it. I've been to both the Fort Collins and the Loveland locations, I think that I like the atmosphere at the Loveland location better. Why is good Greek so hard to find in this area? This place will do until I find something else, also they always have coupons that come in the mail.

"I loves me some Greek food!" My wife and I had our first experience at Café Athens last night, and both of us walked away fairly impressed. We shared a gyro platter with spinach rice, a souvlaki beef platter with wedge potatoes, and a piece of baklava. I loved it. Their ziziki sauce was tasty and they put in on the side of the platter so you can put as much or as little as you want on your food. That's one of my biggest complains about past Greek experiences...some Ziziki sauce is a little too "tangy" for my taste, and some restaurants seem to pour it on like it's going out of style...but that's not the case at Café Athens. It was GOOD Ziziki sauce and you get to control the amount. The meats were amazing, the potato wedges were fantastic, and the spinach rice was very good (Albeit, a very odd flavor combination if you've never had it before. Once I let my brain accept it, was yummy.) Portion size was good for the price. Café Athens seems to be a kind of in-between restaurant...you can come sit for a full blown meal, you can stop in for a quick sandwich, stop in for drinks and/or dessert, or just pick up something to go...and they seemed to cater to all four options pretty well. Sandwiches seemed to be around $6-7 while full dinners were around $10. They also have some great Greek desserts, appetizers, beers, and wines. The staff was friendly and very efficient, and the décor is charming, with Greek music playing and a lot of homage paid to Greek art and architecture inside the restaurant. Oh, and Café Athens' back door leads to a gorgeous patio with a large fire pit...nice. I don't have a lot of experience with Greek food, but I know what I like and I liked this. And it's nice to have a little more cuisine "diversity" on this side of Fort Collins.

Best place in Fort Collins to get gyro. Nice seating area can be loud sometimes when they are busy. But the staff is always friendly and the food is always hot.

Cafe Athens is fantastic place for a gyro or any other greek food. Authentic and tasted delicious. I originally went to Cafe Athens for the Greek food, but their french fries are the best in Fort Collins. The portions are large and the servers are friendly. Try it out you will not be disappointed!

one of the best lunch stops in FtC. Actual spinning real gyros! Gyros salad is my standby. Service is fast.

After navigating through the maze of suburban hell, the stripmalls, SUVs, and pavement meandering in indistinguishable paths for miles, you might, finally, if you have a GPS, find Cafe Athens. In this setting how can you think anything other than anonymous chain? But they have surprisingly good ratings so lets give it a try: I get there at 8:30, their website says they are open till 10, but the truth is 9. The waitress steers me to a to-go order, this place is closing down. With my food nicely packaged in Styrofoam I head out to find a park in which to eat my dinner (another story of suburban hell which can be saved for another time). The coke is the same corn sweetened liquid that you'll find at all the other chains along this stretch of steamy black tar. The fries come from the same assembly plant that Arby's uses for their curly fries, they left out the curl but otherwise you get the idea. And the gyro? Well, the meat was tasty, the thing is huge, overall, it had the same effect as one you might get from the fair: tasty and full of grease. The overall verdict: if you are craving a fat filled fast food fix and can run the suburban gauntlet, you might find Cafe Athens fits the ticket, but for me the price is just too steep and the payoff not quite there.

Food is fantastic! Staff is super friendly & fast. Recommend trying your gyro sandwich or platter hot & spicy with jalapenos...Wow! Great combo. Cafe Athens has THE BEST fries. Great place to order "to go" and run in & out...super fast.

  • Karl W.

this place is awesome...I always get the gyro, and it has huge chunks of beef. I haven't had a gyro like this from any other place, its terrific. The reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because they only have old tabasco sauce. It literally stops me from coming here. If you work at this restaurant, please for the love of God, start carrying Frank's red hot.

Cafe Athens is from the same owner as Renzio's, but is a nicer sit-down version, and the menu is much more expanded. I had the Gyro meat platter which is what I always order from Renzio's. Everything was what I expected, with the addition of a side dish. You can choose from mixed veggies, fries, etc. The mixed veggies were overcooked. They charge a few dollars more at Cafe Athens, but you do get the extra side dish. Is it worth going to over Renzio's? Only if you're way on the southeast side of town. But I'll have to try some of their extended offerings in the future. I forgot to mention the fries-- they are the BEST. They have that outer crumbly fried bits of goodness, and make sure you sprinkle their special herbs/spices over them. So tasty! (Same fries as Renzio's, of course.)

I really have no idea how this place is getting the reviews it is. The gyros themselves were good, but that is where stops. Saganaki was terrible both in taste and presentation. I have never heard of it taking 20 minutes, in fact I've never seen it take more than 5 minutes. P.S. it only takes 1 person to light cheese on fire, not 4. The avgolemono was a far cry from being respectable. I can see some of the veggies being tossed in there, but if your going to butcher the soup by putting them in there at least have the decency to cut them up to make them less noticable. The mixed vegetables as a side dish seemed like a complete after thought; oh no, somebody wants vegetables? Quick run to the store and pick up a bag of frozen Birds Eye veggies and no one will know. Again, the gyro was good but after that the next closest thing to authenticity was the ice water.

The gyro I've been looking for! Did takeout and ordered a gyro - the third place this week I've tried in the area. The pita bread is wrapped around the contents and is soft and chewy, not stuffed inside. The pita was perfect, the meat seasoned just right, the tzatziki smooth, it was easily the largest and most filling of the gyros I've tried this week. I wish they mentioned they put raw onions on it (I picked mine off), and a little more lettuce and a little less meat would actually balance the gyro better. I'll be back!

  • Dan K.

My wife and I go here all the time for lunch. They seem to be regularly busy but never to the point of waiting for a table. The food is consistently good. The falafels are excellent and never greasy. I have ordered the mousaka on a few occasions and it is quite tasty. Order the potatoes on the side (pass on the orzo). The greek nachos, which is actually a giant mound of pita chips topped with black olives, gyro and cheese is always a crowd pleaser. The service is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes you can't get a hold of you server for love or money. Nevertheless, the food makes it worth visiting.

Love this place for a quick, relatively inexpensive lunch of dinner. The fries are excellent, the gyros are great, and the hummus is very good. The saganiki is not the best I've ever had, but you can't beat that "OPA!" moment where ever you are! We come here fairly frequently, and it's consistently good!

A nice little Greek addition to the culinary options in Fort Collins! The hubby and I have long been hurting for a Fort Collins replacement for Jerusalem's down in Denver (a definite favorite of ours!). And as of recently, we have been kind of disappointed with the middle eastern and Greek food that Fort Collins had to offer. So were were definitely excited when we saw that a new Greek restaurant had opened up. We finally gave Cafe Athens a try tonight and we were not disappointed! It was still no Jerusalem's, but that is a high bar to beat. The place was nice, clean, and had a relaxing atmosphere. The portions were large and the food was pretty good. We started off with the stuffed grape leaves which were perfect! Then I got the gyro platter and the husband got the chicken gyro sandwich with french fries, then we split a side of falafels. My gyro was great and the falafels were nice and crispy on the outside. The greek salad on the side as also delish along with the tzatziki dipping sauce. The husband was a little saddened that his chicken gyro was made with chicken BREAST meat and not gyro meat, thought it clearly said on the menu that it is made with chicken breast and he failed to heed my warnings (in his defense, though, Jerusalem's does have chicken gyro meat). It was still good though, but I think next time he will go for the tradition gyro meat instead. Regardless, the food was great and at a wonderful price! Appetizer, two meals, a side of falafel, and a drink for just $25! And looking at the menu, most meals are under $10 (even the large entrees). There did seems to be some staffing confusions when were got there and our waitress (who I think was actually the hostess) seemed a little young and new at the whole serving thing. But nothing so bad that we would hold it against them. To round it up: Nice, clean atmosphere with great food and good portions. Still no Jerusalem's, but definitely a good Fort Collins replacement.

5 stars to this restaurant for fooling most everyone into thinking this is good Greek food. Very disappointed. Lacked atmosphere and quality. The gyros were the only thing I could stomach. Olive hummus was more like a tapenade. I strongly suggest you take a visit to Taverna Greek Grill on College in Ft. Collins or if your ever in Michigan take a trip to Greektown, now that's what I'm talking about.

we slipped into this place one day for lunch as we were hungry and it was near. gyro's here are pretty tasty, service was good. probably would not come back just because there are other places similar that do a better job

Horrible unless you like canned mushrooms, olives, bottled sauce etc. The waitress dropped an entire sampler plate in my friend's lap and NEVER apologized! This was at the Centerra Loveland location. No manager on site, when I asked who was in charge I was told the owner might be in tomorrow. The worst lunch in years and lack of service makes this a disaster. Lots of wonderful choices at Centerra this isn't one.

Quite disgusting food. Very, very overseasoned, mostly with cheap garlic powder. Gyros was stale and cold. Salad was very wilted and tired. Side dishes were fried in stale oil, the odor of which permiated the place, so we all had to shower when we got home. Our family was all sick with stomach aches an intestinal trouble from eating at Cafe Athens. Bleagh.

  • Dan F.

So if you're looking for a gyro this is the place. It's all about the Lamb. Big seating area and you can order take out if you'd rather do that. But what makes this place special is the variety of types of gyros you can order. The Greek salads are fresh and highly recommended, especially if you enjoy the feta. It will satisfy your desire for great Greek food and it's perfect place for a middle of the week luncheon. The cute waitresses (yes, all of them) aren't too shabby either.

Truly not Greek at all. I tried the Cafe Athens in the Centerra Shopping center in Loveland, Colorado. We ordered the Spanikopita as an appetizer to start. We received the appetizer and it looked fried. You can't fry Spanikopita, it should be baked. We took a bite and it tasted like frying pan oil. We did touch another bite. I ordered the Greek salad, thinking nothing could go wrong with that and my friend ordered the MOUSAKA PLATTER. I took a bite of the salad and the feta cheese had no flavor at all. It didn't taste anything like feta. It might have been old or stale. My friend took one bite of his Mousaka platter and had the same reaction as the Spanikopita. He said it tasted like fried greasy food. Maybe they did clean the pans they cooked in that night. Too top off the evening, our service was horrible and we had to ask multiple times to have our water refilled....we had to remind the one waitress working that we asked for a refill 20 minutes ago. Our dessert was the baklava, which had a hard crust and was cold. Not flaky and warm. Needless to say, we did not touch our food after the first bite. Poor service and bad food. My friend and I will never go back. I'm not understanding why so many people have rated it well.

Eh, I've had better and more authentic Greek food than what this place offers. I go here every now and again, but the last time I was here I was highly disappointed in the staff. I was shopping over at Super Target and thought I'd call in my order so that I could just run in and out. Well when I called I was put on hold......................and was forgotten about! I stayed on the line for as long as possible and even shouted into the phone for someone to hear me but to no avail. As I stayed on the phone I could hear all sorts of "private" conversations, so I finally hung up and I tried to call at least 5 more times after that and could not get through because the line was busy - with the ghost me still on the other line. When I walked in to place my order I told the hostess what had happened and she stared at me like a deer in the headlights. When she came to she apologized and went to go and look for the cordless phone. There was another customer waiting at the bar for her order and she mentioned that she had tried calling in too to place her order and kept getting a busy message. This young hostess failed miserably and had no other offerings except expedite my order.

Wait staff was terrific and friendly. Options for kids were OK. The hummus and baba ganoush are delicious. It was a great stop for lunch after a morning of whirlwind Christmas shopping.

Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more.
